Brushing can emphasize bedding, fossils, pores and softer mineral areas, creating a tactile architectural surface. It may support interior floors, walls, stairs or selected exterior contexts when the full assembly is reviewed. Travertine and limestone respond differently according to pore structure, fill and grain, so the finish should be evaluated on the exact material proposed.
Relief, brush direction, open or filled pores, color depth and edge treatment can vary. Deep texture can affect cleaning and how water or soil accumulates. Filler may abrade differently from surrounding stone. A small sample should show the proposed fill, brushing, sealer and maintenance method, and larger pieces should be reviewed for directional consistency.
