Stone Procurement Specifications

A stone procurement specification should identify the material and current lot, then define format, thickness, dimensions, finish, visual range, service environment, fabrication, applicable tests, documents, quantity, packing, destination and schedule. Separate catalogue facts from project variables

Material family, origin relationships and commonly discussed thicknesses can help form a brief. Actual slab dimensions, usable area, repairs, reinforcement, finish outcome, fabrication, tests, packing, availability, quotation and timing remain selection-specific. Each field should carry an explicit status—published, enquiry only, confirmation required, not published or not applicable—so missing evidence is visible rather than filled with a guess.

Format, thickness and dimensions

State whether the request concerns blocks, slabs, tiles, panels or cut-to-size pieces, then provide finished and nominal dimensions, thickness, quantity and acceptable tolerances. For fabricated work, include openings, edges, seams, supports, reinforcement and layout information. Current-lot dimensions and yield should be checked before the design assumes that every piece can be cut from the proposed material.

Evidence, packing and commercial scope

Identify the test standards, reports, declarations, samples, mock-ups and inspection records the project requires. Add marking, protection, crate, loading, destination and handling constraints. Commercially, request currency, Incoterm, inclusions, exclusions, validity, payment terms, schedule assumptions and replacement conditions in writing. None of these values should be inferred from a generic profile or previous shipment.

Identify interior or exterior location, moisture, traffic, chemicals, heat, cleaning and maintenance expectations so responsible project parties can establish requirements.

Project-specific confirmation

Edge & Fabrication

Define openings, edges, seams, supports, reinforcement, finish transitions and layout. No edge or fabrication capability is assumed when a reviewed value is absent.

Fabricator confirmation required

Testing & Documentation

List applicable standards, reports, declarations, samples, mock-ups and inspection records. Current public profiles do not publish technical test data.
