How to shortlist Natural Stone Flooring

The flooring group spans marble, granite, quartzite, travertine and limestone profiles. Begin with interior or exterior exposure, pedestrian traffic, wetting, abrasion, cleaning and maintenance. Then compare material identity, visual range and finish. A directory relationship does not mean a stone or finish is universally slip-proof, freeze-thaw suitable or appropriate for every substrate and unit size.

Variation and evidence

Current lots affect tonal range, movement, pores, fill, thickness, dimensional consistency and replacement matching. Finish samples should be reviewed at a useful scale, and large floors need lot grouping and layout. Request applicable slip, abrasion, absorption or exterior evidence where the project requires it; the current public profiles contain no published testing values.

Project confirmation

Coordinate substrate construction, flatness, deflection, moisture, waterproofing where relevant, setting materials, unit dimensions, pattern, joints, movement accommodation, drainage and lippage tolerances. Define protection during construction, cleaning, sealing and spare quantities. Approval belongs to the qualified design and installation team, not the material profile or finish tag alone.

  1. Confirm current material, finish, unit size, evidence, substrate, setting, joints, protection, maintenance and spares.
  2. Define location, exposure, traffic, moisture, cleaning, dimensions, finish, quantity, destination and needed date.
  3. Request current-lot media, representative samples and the applicable project or material documents.
  4. Assign support, fabrication, installation, testing, maintenance and final approval to responsible qualified parties.
