Tumbled Stone Finish

A tumbled stone finish softens surfaces and edges through controlled mechanical processing, producing an aged or worn visual character. Silver Travertine is the only current VeyraStone profile linked to this finish. Pore condition, fill, edge rounding, dimensions, color, texture, cleaning and application behavior must be approved on representative current material.

How to shortlist Tumbled Stone Finish

Tumbling is often considered for smaller units where softened edges and a less formal surface support a traditional or weathered composition. The process can highlight travertine pores and banding while changing nominal dimensions and joint appearance. The current directory does not treat tumbling as a generic finish available on every stone or in every piece size.

Variation and evidence

Tumbling time, media, unit size, stone fabric, pore treatment and fill influence edge rounding and surface wear. Pieces may show natural chips or dimensional variation that must be distinguished from unacceptable damage. Approve a representative sample set rather than one piece, and record the acceptable edge, fill, color and size range for the intended pattern.

Project confirmation

Define unit format, thickness, pattern, joint width, substrate, traffic, water, exterior exposure, cleaning and maintenance. Request applicable material evidence if the installation depends on slip, abrasion or freeze-thaw behavior. Coordinate quantity, breakage allowance, packing, sorting and spare pieces because a deliberately softened finish still needs controlled acceptance criteria.

Written confirmation

What to include in the next brief.

  1. Approve a representative sample set and record edge, pore, fill, dimensions, joints, evidence and spare quantity.
  2. Define the finish through a representative sample made on the selected material.
  3. Record face, edges, cut direction, treatments, tolerance, inspection lighting and protection requirements.
  4. Request applicable evidence where traffic, wetting, abrasion, exterior or freeze-thaw performance matters.
